Our Departments

meet Our departments

Chassis

The chassis department design and manufacture the chassis, ensuring it meets safety standards while maximizing performance, including reducing the weight of the chassis as much as possible whilst also ensuring all the rules are met.

We have a carbon monocoque chassis, meaning the whole chassis is in one piece and made out of carbon fibre, so composites is a large part of this department.

They collaborate closely with other departments such as aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics.

powertrain

The powertrain department focuses on the heart of the racing car, its power source. Their expertise ensures that the accumulator delivers the necessary speed and acceleration on the track.

In 2021 we transitioned to having an electric powertrain. This means our powertrain department is responsible for designing, manufacturing and testing the battery that powers our car. The powertrain department is also responsible for getting the power from the battery into the wheels and all of the drivetrain components.

Electronics and control

Electronics and Control Systems are responsible for the brain of the car, all telemetry, safety and control systems. They work very closely with the Powertrain department on the HV Battery to ensure the car and driver are kept safe.

Included in the electronics and control department is:

  • LV electronic systems
  • Embedded Systems & Software
  • Control Systems in the HV battery
  • Motor Control Systems
  • Harness design manufacturing and packaging
  • Sensors & Data Telemetry

Aerodynamics

The aerodynamics department is responsible for the design and manufacturing of the aerodynamic components of the car, including the front and rear wings and the diffusers. These components create downforce to give the car more grip.

The aerodynamics department conduct CFD simulations to ensure the car has as much downforce as possible without increasing the weight of the car too much.

Vehicle Dynamics

The vehicle dynamics department focuses on optimising how the car behaves on the track. Their focus is on suspension, steering, and tyre dynamics, to achieve exceptional handling and stability.

They are responsible for suspension design, upright design and steering.

Driver Interface

The driver interface department is responsible for all the things in the car that the driver will interact with. This includes the seat and driver safety, the pedal box, dashboard, steering wheel and brakes.

This department works closely with vehicle dynamics.

Business

The business plan presentation is an important part of the competition. Each year a business condition is released and each team needs the create a business plan presentation that follows this condition and it pitched to judges at competition. This business plan presentation accounts for 15% of the points at the competition.

Marketing

The marketing team is responsible for all the social media for the team. This includes posts about what the team is up to as well as posts about our sponsors. This is important as many sponsors will have requirements for being showcased on our social medias, including Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok as well as our website.
